Workshop: Quantitative Models in Organismal Biology
Quantitative Models in Organismal Biology: Insights and Interconnections
Free workshop: 8-13 March 2026
Friday Harbor Laboratories, San Juan Island, Washington
This workshop is for graduate students, postdocs and early faculty with diverse backgrounds and interests including:
- Biologists who have a strong interest in the functional characteristics of organisms and would like to use models in their work
- Modelers who are interested in developing and applying new, insightful models to address questions in organismal biology.
The workshop will provide experiential learning in quantitative critical skills and mechanistic thinking, with an emphasis on biological applications rather than mathematical techniques. Participants will learn how to gain insights from quantitative approaches in organismal biology, how to use models to test hypotheses about organismal function, and linkages to higher and lower scales of organization. The workshop will use intuitive, free, open-source software. Participants can also get help in developing a new application of modeling approaches to their own research questions.
Application–due by Jan 30, 2026 at 5 pm EST
Travel, lodging, and meals will be provided for workshop participants through OSyM. To attend the workshop, please fill out the application form. In the case of over-enrollment, we will select participants based on their interests and backgrounds, so please give thought to your responses.
